At the beginning of this century, Square Productions let loose information on a continuation of their exceptionally well-received and praised game Final Fantasy VII. First rumored to be a video game, the company later revealed it would be released as an CGI-animated film. Fans were excited: "A Final Fantasy movie that, unlike Spirits Within, was actually based on a Final Fantasy game? How could this not be good?"
An answer to this question came in 2005, when newly-mergered SquareEnix released the film to theaters and on DVD. It wasn't the answer the fans were wanting.
